2024 FIA Formula 2 Belgium Sprint Race results

There were limited opportunities for Invicta Racing in a delayed and shortened Spa-Francorchamps Sprint Race.

Invicta Racing did not have many laps of action to work with in the FIA Formula 2 Spa-Francorchamps Sprint Race, with Gabriel Bortoleto and Kush Maini not picking up any points after just two full laps of action.

The Sprint Race, scheduled for 18 laps, was postponed from its initial slot due to heavy rain and had to be run at the end of the day. The conditions were better for the second attempt at running, but still very wet.

From ninth for Gabriel and 11th for Kush, the field jostled for position heading into La Source in wet conditions. It was a difficult opening lap, with Gabriel dropping two places and Kush one spot.

On lap two, Gabriel gained one of his lost places and moved back into the top 10.

The Virtual Safety Car was called on lap three for the stopped Campos entry of Josep María Martí, which then became a full Safety Car. The rain then began to intensify once more.

Despite the stricken car being removed, the Safety Car remained on track until the end of lap seven when the red flag was shown. The race was not resumed due to visibility being poor.

At the race’s conclusion, Gabriel was classified in 10th and Kush in 13th with results being taken from the end of lap five.

The team now looks ahead to Sunday’s Feature Race, scheduled for 10:00 CEST (UTC+2).

SPRINT RACE RESULTS:

  • Gabriel Bortoleto: P10
  • Kush Maini: P13

GABRIEL BORTOLETO: “There was not much in today’s race, which is a shame. We lost out a little bit at the start and just as we were gaining some momentum the Safety Car was called and there were no opportunities to make any ground up after that due to the red flag.”

KUSH MAINI: “Very little to say about today. Unfortunately we did not get much running in at all, but the conditions were poor. We just were not able to find the rhythm we needed in the few racing laps we had. Thankfully, there are plenty of points on offer tomorrow and the weather forecast is looking better.”
