2024 FIA Formula 2 Saudi Arabia Event Preview

INVICTA RACING TARGETING THE FRONT IN JEDDAH

After making a successful start to the 2024 FIA Formula 2 Championship in Bahrain, Invicta Racing next heads to Saudi Arabia to take on the fearsome Jeddah Corniche Circuit.

At 6.174 kilometres, Jeddah is the second-longest circuit on the calendar after the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium but features more corners than any other venue visited this year at 27. Despite this, it is mighty fast. Each high-speed turn relentlessly leads into another, and with barriers lining the circuit from left to right, Jeddah is waiting to catch out the very best of drivers.

Invicta Racing’s Gabriel Bortoleto and Kush Maini, alongside the rest of the F2 grid, will need to maintain laser focus throughout the weekend as they tackle one of the most intense circuits in motorsport. The demands are vastly different in comparison to Bahrain, and with quick corners and few traction zones, more stress will be placed on the front tyres.

Team Formbook

While Kush finished in the top five in last year’s Sprint Race, Jeddah will be a new circuit for Gabriel. The team secured second place in last season’s Feature Race and has enjoyed good recent form, but if the opening round of 2024 showed anything, it’s that the pecking order in Formula 2 has shaken up significantly.

Memorable Moment

In 2023, Victor Martins was leading Jeddah’s Feature Race but dramatically spun out while Frederik Vesti was closing in, showing that the course of a race can change at any point. This mistake handed the lead to the Danish driver, who went on to take his first victory of the season.

Andy Roache, Team Principal, Invicta Racing

Jeddah is a very challenging venue, and its demands are very different to Bahrain. It all can change in an instant with the walls being so close, and so that is something we all will need to be on top of throughout every session. We are all learning every day with the new car, but our primary aim is to have a clean weekend and maximise our result. We performed well in Bahrain pace-wise, but we will not see where we stand compared to our rivals until the competitive sessions begin.
