Italian driver Luca Ghiotto scored a phenomenal second position to complete a brilliant comeback weekend for UNI-Virtuosi in Formula 2, while Chinese driver Guan Yu Zhou completed his best weekend yet in his rookie season.
After a podium yesterday, Zhou fought hard for places in the top five, the hot Barcelona sunshine making tyre management difficult, especially for a rookie driver.
But not only did Zhou dice in the top positions, he made an overtake in the last two laps to take fourth position, adding to his first ever podium in Saturday’s race.
Ghiotto raced to fifth from the back of the pack in Saturday’s race, and while it was more difficult to overtake in Sunday’s conditions, he still moved up from seventh to second picking off drivers almost at will.
Both drivers head to Monaco with the UNI-Virtuosi team in support of the Monte Carlo Grand Prix in two weeks time.
Luca Ghiotto:
The team is doing a great job, everybody in the paddock is trying to understand why we are so quick. The others did a better race today than yesterday and If I had a better start it may have been easier to move forward. But after yesterday we still have to be happy with the weekend.
Guan Yu Zhou:
Today I am happier than yesterday, not because of the finish position but because of how everything came together and how I improved myself with the tyre management. We just have to try and keep everything how it is now, keep improving and keep the momentum going.
