A tough weekend in Spain sees Invicta Racing depart with only two points despite promising pace.
The Invicta Racing duo of Leonardo Fornaroli and Roman Stanek looked strong at the start of Qualifying, sitting first and third on the timing board after their initial flying laps.
Like most of the field, both drivers opted to pit halfway through the session and returned to the track for their second runs with seven minutes remaining.
Roman was able to improve his time and claim a strong fourth position – his best Qualifying result of the season to date.
Unfortunately, Leonardo suffered a technical issue and was therefore unable to improve his time – his initial lap impressively remaining good enough to seal 10th on the grid.

With track temperatures of 48 degrees, tyre management was crucial during the Sprint Race. From reverse grid pole, Leonardo had a tricky start and fell back to third by the end of the opening lap.
Roman got away well off the line, gaining a place from his starting position of sixth and immediately engaging in the battle for fourth.
Having attempted to make a move, he was then forced go on the defensive from cars behind and dropped to seventh by the end of the second lap.
The pair held position through the middle phase of the race, with Leonardo staying within DRS range of the leading pair and Roman showing good pace further back.
However, a late Safety Car on lap 18 created a strategic opportunity for those lower down the order, with many opting to pit for fresh Soft tyres.
At the restart on lap 20, both Leonardo and Roman struggled to defend on their older, Hard compound tyres from those who had opted to pit.
Leonardo dropped back to eighth, securing the final points paying position, while Roman crossed the line in 17th. A post-race penalty for Sebastian Montoya promoted Leonardo to seventh.

Roman Stanek: 17th (0 points)
Roman began the Feature Race from fourth on the Soft compound tyre, while Leonardo opted for an alternative strategy on the Hard compound from 10th. Both made promising starts, getting through the first lap cleanly and retaining their positions.
However, it soon became a race to forget for Leonardo after he was handed a 10-second stop-and-go penalty for a starting infringement. After serving the penalty on lap 4, he dropped down the order and began his fightback.
While some of the front runners pitted to change their Soft tyres, Roman stayed out a lap later, coming in for his pit stop on lap 11 to swap to the Hard tyre and rejoining in 17th.
At the halfway point of the race, Roman had made up several places to sit ninth, while Leonardo was circulating in 19th. In the latter stages, however, Roman began to struggle with his tyres, dropping him down the order to 11th.
Holding out for a late Safety Car which never came, Leonardo came into the pits for his mandatory stop on lap 34. However, an issue during the stop meant he had to pull over and retire the car shortly after rejoining the track.
As a result of Leonardo’s car being stranded in the gravel at Turn 1, the race ended behind the Safety Car, with Roman crossing the line in 11th.

LEONARDO FORNAROLI
“It was a tough weekend. We didn’t have the best qualifying and that set the tone for the rest of the weekend. We were just about able to hold onto a couple of points in the Sprint Race after other drivers managed to get the strategy right with the Safety Car, but that was as good as it got. It’s frustrating to end the triple-header in the way we did, not finishing the Feature Race, but we will take the lessons from this and look to come back stronger in Austria.”

ROMAN STANEK
“It’s been another mixed weekend for me. Qualifying went well, and I achieved my best starting position of the season so far, but we struggled on the tyres in both races which meant the points were out of reach. The final results don’t reflect the pace we had, but we’ll look ahead to Austria and see what we can do.”

JAMES ROBINSON, TEAM PRINCIPAL
“It has been a challenging end to the triple-header for us here in Barcelona. We knew strategy would shape the weekend, and that’s exactly what happened during the Sprint Race. There were positives, though, with Roman achieving his best qualifying result of the year and Leonardo securing another point. We’ll use the short break ahead of Austria to reset and regroup as a team. There is potential in the car and both drivers have the pace for some more good results in the second half of the season.”
