Frenchman Anthoine Hubert, 22, was a member of the Formula 1 support-series family for three seasons and his smile lit up the paddock, always available for a chat or a joke around races, he was one of the first people to seek out and catch up with in the paddock for many.
Anthoine became even more familiar to UNI-Virtuosi this year, as he made the graduation to Formula 2 and is on the same Renault Sport Academy as our own driver, Guan Yu Zhou. This meant our second driver Luca Ghiotto also got to know Anthoine well.
All at the team are shocked at what happened and that Anthoine is no longer with us. Both FIA Formula 2 races were cancelled following the incident and a minute’s silence was held before Sunday’s FIA Formula 3 race.
Anthoine was a fierce competitor on track and pushed Zhou hard as the two highest-placed rookies in the F2 championship this year. The competition was strong and it will be missed.
Our thoughts are with those closest to Anthoine and the BWT Arden team at this incredibly difficult time.
Juan Manuel Correa is also in the thoughts of all those at UNI-Virtuosi, after the American driver was also involved in the crash and is currently in hospital after surgery. We wish our friends at the Sauber Junior Team by Charouz and all those closest to Correa the best, and hope for his speedy recovery.
