Invicta Racing heads to its home race fresh off the back of a maiden Formula 2 win for Gabriel Bortoleto
Silverstone hosts Round 8 of the 2024 FIA Formula 2 Championship, and the Invicta Racing team will be hungry to replicate its result from the Red Bull Ring.
The 2024 season passed the halfway mark in Austria and with it, Gabriel Bortoleto’s victory brought the Brazilian into championship contention. Now arriving at his team’s home race at Silverstone, he’ll undoubtedly be hoping to continue this recent run of form.
The iconic Silverstone circuit’s unique layout lends itself to stability in high-speed corners as well as straight-line efficiency on its many straights. A tricky balance to strike. The 5.8km circuit length also makes this one of the longest tracks on the F2 calendar, adding to the challenge of setting a quick lap.
Track notes
The flat-out right-hander of Abbey opens the lap and feeds directly into the left kink of Farm Curve. Village presents the first braking event of the lap and the first opportunity to overtake. The slow-speed section of the Loop and Aintree leads onto the Wellington Straight and then, a second chance to pass into Brooklands.
Turn 7 at Luffield is a long right-hander with multiple different lines that can be taken. Woodcote comes next before the old start/finish straight and the infamous Copse corner that, for the brave, is taken flat in qualifying. The iconic Maggotts and Becketts section follows, culminating with Chapel Curve, the entrance to the Hangar Straight and the start of the third and final sector.
The fastest corner on the circuit and yet another overtaking opportunity, Stowe awaits at the end of the Hangar Straight. Rounding out the lap is another low-speed sequence at Vale and Club, before crossing the line on the Hamilton Straight.
Team formbook
Gabriel Bortoleto’s best result at Silverstone was second in the 2023 Formula 3 Sprint, while Kush secured two podiums from three races – a second and a third – in the 2018 British F3 visit.
The Invicta Racing team has also enjoyed strong form at Silverstone. Jack Doohan finished third in the 2023 Sprint, a race he won a year prior too. Zhou Guanyu also won the Feature Race in 2021, and finished third behind team-mate Luca Ghiotto who won the race in 2019.
Memorable moment
Dennis Hauger and Roy Nissany’s heart-stopping incident in the 2022 Feaure Race ended with the Norwegian driver spearing into the side of the DAMS car at Vale.
Team Principal Andy Roche: “This is a special race for Invicta Racing in many ways. The team are all really excited to compete at our home event and at such a special track too. It’s also a big event for the drivers; Gabriel has an opportunity to carry momentum from his win in Austria and Kush will be looking to replicate his previous podium results at this circuit.”
