The 2025 FIA Formula 2 season has once again produced edge of the seat racing that fans have come to expect from the Formula 1 single-seater feeder series.
Entering the year as reigning Teams’ and Drivers’ champions, Invicta Racing returned to the grid with a refreshed line-up: 2024 FIA Formula 3 champion, Leonardo Fornaroli, and experienced Czech racer, Roman Staněk.
With just two rounds remaining, Invicta Racing leads the Teams’ Championship, while Leonardo has enjoyed a standout rookie campaign, sitting atop the Drivers’ Standings after a season of remarkable consistency.
With the title battles heating up and set to go down to the wire, here’s how the 2025 season has unfolded so far.
MELBOURNE
On debut for the team, Leonardo immediately impressed by challenging for pole position. A late spin on his final lap left him P10, while Roman steadily improved to take P6.
Sprint Race
Leonardo started the season’s first reverse-grid Sprint Race on pole position. After losing the lead into the first turn, he put on the pressure to try and reclaim top spot but would remain P2 to start his debut F2 season with a podium finish. Roman held station to finish P5.
Feature Race
Due to inclement weather, the Feature Race was cancelled after several attempts to get the race underway.
STANDINGS

SaKHIR
Leonardo’s strong start continued with pole position in Bahrain, while Roman again showed solid pace to qualify P5.
Sprint Race
Avoiding contact at the start dropped Leonardo to P14, but a late Safety Car allowed a stop for fresh tyres. The Italian charged back to P9 and was later promoted to P8 after a disqualification for another driver, while Roman struggled with tyre degradation to eventually finish P15.
Feature Race
After starting on pole, Leonardo held his lead off the line but was overtaken on lap 7. He emerged from his pit stop in P8 and cut his way back through the field to finish P3 – his and the team’s second podium of 2025.
Roman struggled with tyre degradation again, fighting against those on the alternate strategy to cross the line in P17.

jeddah
In another strong Qualifying for the team, Leonardo set the third fastest time, while Roman was P10.
Sprint Race
Roman was set to start from pole but received a three-place grid drop for both races post-qualifying. The duo looked competitive in the early stages of the race, and a late Safety Car allowed the team to pit both for fresh tyres, with Roman eventually finishing P5 and Leonardo P7.
Feature Race
Split strategies saw both drivers experience quite different races. A slow pit stop saw Leonardo lose ground, while Roman’s late pit stop dropped him to P14. The Italian steadily recovered during the remainder of the race, crossing the line in P4, while Roman finished P12.

Imola
After both drivers showed early promise, a red flag ended qualifying early, preventing either from improving their best time. As a result, Leonardo would take P4 with Roman P13.
Sprint Race
Both drivers added to the team’s tally with a double points finish. A strong race for Roman saw him charge from P12 to P8, just behind Leonardo who held P7.
Feature Race
Neither driver was able to make major progress in the Feature. Leonardo lost time during his pit stop and finished P5, while Roman’s gamble on a late Safety Car unfortunately failed to pay off, leaving him P17 at the race’s conclusion.

Monaco
From Monaco’s unique split-group qualifying, Leonardo secured P3 with Roman P14.
Sprint Race
The streets of Monaco lived up to their reputation with overtaking proving difficult. Roman gained two places after a Safety Car restart, moving into P13 and eventually finishing P11 thanks to a penalty for another driver.
Leonardo, meanwhile, was setting quick lap times in an attempt to overhaul Arvid Lindblad, who was carrying a 10-second penalty. The Italian would eventually finish P7, gaining two points.
Feature Race
Aided by a multi-car pile-up on Lap 1, both drivers took the restart further up the grid – Leonardo on pole and Roman P9. The Italian led until a Safety Car allowed Jak Crawford to pit and jump ahead.
A second red flag ended the race early, leaving Leonardo P2 and Roman P7. With less than half distance completed, reduced points were awarded.

BARCELONA
Roman delivered his best Qualifying of the year so far with P4, while a technical issue left Leonardo P10 - giving him reverse-grid pole.
Sprint Race
Leonardo was unable to capitalise on his grid slot and slipped back to P3 early on, with Roman holding P7. A late Safety Car saw other drivers pit for fresh tyres, putting the duo at a disadvantage on older rubber. By the chequered flag, Leonardo was able to hold on for P7, while Roman slipped to P17.
Feature Race
It was a race to forget for Leonardo, with a 10-second stop-and-go penalty for a starting infringement dropping him to the back of the field.
Roman had climbed to P9 by mid-race after his pit stop, but he later fell to P11 as his tyres faded and ultimately crossed the line in the same position.
An issue during Leonardo’s pit stop on lap 34 meant he had to pull and retire the car after rejoining, with the DNF bringing his ten race points scoring streak to an end.

SPIELBERG
Leonardo became the first repeat pole-sitter of the season, with Roman only 0.2s behind in P6 after a closely contested session.
Sprint Race
Both drivers made up positions in the opening laps before a lengthy Red Flag brought progress to a halt. Roman battled for the lead but couldn't find a way past, securing P3 and his first podium of the year, while Leonardo was powerles to avoid an incident on the final lap and failed to finish.
Feature Race
It was another strong start to the race for both drivers, with Leonardo retaining the lead and Roman gaining two places.
Roman was the first to pit with Leonardo a lap later. As the Italian made his stop, he was undercut by two of his rivals, losing further places as he struggled to get temperature in his new tyres.
Roman was circulating in P12 after his pit stop and shuffled up to P8 at the chequered flag. Leonardo capitalised on an incident ahead of him to move up to third in the closing stages of the race. Post-race penalties promoted both drivers up another position each.

Silverstone
Once again, both drivers made it into the top 10 in Qualifying at Silverstone with Roman P4 and Leonardo P10.
Sprint RACE
Leonardo secured his first Formula 2 victory in the Sprint Race with a decisive move on Kush Maini at Luffield at the end of lap 1 before pulling clear to control the race.
Roman battled hard to climb up from P7, staying in the podium fight throughout and sealing P3 with a late pass at Stowe on the penultimate lap to deliver a brilliant double podium for the team.
Feature RACE
In tricky wet conditions, Roman launched himself into the fight for the podium positions once more. After seeing track improvements, he was one of the first drivers to gamble onto the Soft compound tyre. The decision would prove costly, as he spun just a lap later, forcing his retirement.
Leonardo, meanwhile, fought back from P12 and kept his cool in the closing laps to rise to P6 before the race ended under the Safety Car.

SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS
At Spa-Francorchamps, Leonardo qualified P3 and Roman P7 to secure another double top 10.
Sprint Race
Leonardo stormed from P3 to the lead at Turn 1 and never looked back, controlling the race to take a second consecutive Sprint Race victory.
Roman recovered from a tough start and opted to switch tyres under a Safety Car, battling through the pack to make it into the points paying positions in P6 before the race came to a close behind another Safety Car.
Feature Race
Heavy rainfall created tricky conditions, which Roman experienced first-hand when he had a huge slide through Eau Rogue after making an overtake for P2 on the first lap.
Heavier rain came after both drivers made their stops, and Roman was able to undercut drivers ahead of him. He was in a tight battle for the podium positions for the remainder of the race, securing P3. Post-race penalties for both drivers ahead saw Roman inherit his first victory of the season.
Leonardo dropped positions early but recovered with a bold move at Eau Rouge to finish P7, before being promoted to P5 thanks to the aforementioned penalties and taking the lead of the Drivers’ Championship in the process.

BUDAPEST
The team delivered a commanding performance in Hungary, securing a front-row lockout in Qualifying with Roman taking his first F2 pole position.
Sprint Race
Leonardo started the race from P9 and gained two positions early on. He resisted pressure from behind and crossed the line in P7, before being promoted to P5 after post-race penalties.
Roman’s race was compromised by contact at the start which dropped him to the back of the pack. He made a determined recovery drive to climb to P13.
Feature Race
Roman and Leonardo began the race as they meant to go on, building a gap to the field behind them before two Virtual Safety Car periods stalled their momentum.
Once they had made their mandatory pit stops, the two had switched positions, with Leonardo ahead of his team-mate in the net lead. Leonardo was handed a five-second time penalty for speeding in the pit lane, prompting him to push hard and open a gap and successfully protect his position.

MONZA
Roman’s fine qualifying form continued, as the Czech driver set the third-fastest time. His Italian team-mate on the other hand secured eighth after a technical issue forced his session to an early conclusion.
Sprint Race
Both cars made an early impact, making up positions before a Safety Car neutralised the field. After multiple attempts, Leonardo snatched the lead on Lap 8 where he controlled the pack for the remainder of the race, taking his fourth win in four events on home soil, while Roman progressed to P5.
Feature Race
The Feature Race brought promise and disappointment. Roman stormed into podium contention before being wiped out during a Safety Car restart, forcing him into early retirement. Leonardo, meanwhile, charged to P5 from his starting position of P8, earning himself 10 valuable points in the championship.

BAKU
A stop-start Qualifying session in Baku saw multiple red flags disrupt the action. Leonardo climbed to P2, just 0.019s off pole, with Roman in P9. However, in the closing stages of the session Roman, collided with John Bennett, resulting in a five-place grid penalty for both races.
Sprint Race
In a windy and rain-affected 21-lap Sprint, both drivers handled the tricky conditions well. Leonardo started P9 and climbed to P5 after a determined drive, making a bold final-lap overtake despite brushing the wall.
Roman, starting from P17 after his penalty, showed strong pace to recover to P11, narrowly missing out on points.
Feature Race
Leonardo took an early lead from his P2 starting position and built a strong gap, while Roman climbed four positions on the start.
After pitting under a Safety Car, Leonardo lost several places due to a long stop, rejoining in P4. A collision with Alex Dunne on Lap 13 resulted in a 10-second penalty, but he recovered strongly, overtaking several rivals to finish within the top five after his penalty had been applied.
Roman finished just outside the points after steady progress through the field.
